There is even work being done to create a browser extension that detects old Flash embed code and swaps it with Ruffle, meaning you could visit any old website and the Flash will (eventually) just WORK. ![]() Ruffle is being written in the Rust programming language and targets desktop and the web using Web Assembly. ![]() We were gonna surprise everyone this fall by suddenly supporting classic content here on NG but it leaked early and the cat is out of the bag. Over the past few months been working on a way to play Flash in the browser via emulation. Newgrounds will be adopting and testing Ruffle internally in order for Flash projects to work even without the Ruffle browser extension: Ancient Flash animation repository Newgrounds is working with developers to create a Flash browser emulator in order to preserve classic games and animations created in the archaic format.Īs Adobe will stop supporting Flash come the end of 2020, programmer Mike Welsh (who previously invented the Flash-to-HD video converter known as Swivel) will be working together with Newgrounds to create an in-browser Flash emulator called Ruffle. ![]()
